About the Opportunity

MyShyft is partnering with a well-established Inpatient Palliative Unit (IPU) in Cumming, Georgia (Forsyth County) to build a reliable PRN pool of skilled Registered Nurses (RN). This is a shift-based, per diem opportunity – not a 13-week travel contract – giving you the flexibility to pick up shifts that fit your schedule while delivering compassionate hospice and palliative care to patients and families navigating end-of-life care.

The unit is a 15-bed IPU committed to high-quality comfort care and evidence-based palliative practice. The interdisciplinary care team – including attending physicians, palliative care social workers, chaplains, and nursing staff – is actively growing its per diem bench to cover call-outs, census increases, and vacation coverage across all shifts. Night shift has the greatest current need.

Ideally located for nurses commuting from Alpharetta, Roswell, Canton, Johns Creek, or Gainesville. No minimum shift commitment – this is flexible supplemental nursing income on your terms.

Position Overview

As a PRN Registered Nurse on the IPU, you will deliver direct patient care under the clinical direction and supervision of the facility’s nursing leadership. You will function as a full member of the interdisciplinary care team (IDT), contributing to goals-of-care conversations, individualized care plan development, and family-centered end-of-life support. MyShyft facilitates your connection to the facility and manages shift logistics through our platform – the facility retains full responsibility for clinical supervision, protocols, and facility-specific policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled nursing care to palliative care, hospice, and end-of-life patients in accordance with facility policies, individualized care plans, and physician orders.
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments; identify and respond to changes in patient condition with strong critical thinking and evidence-based practice.
  • Manage pain assessment and pain management, symptom control, and comfort measures including administration of opioid analgesics and comfort-focused interventions accurately and safely.
  • Assess and manage dyspnea, nausea, delirium, agitation, and other distressing symptoms common in palliative and hospice care settings.
  • Participate in goals-of-care conversations with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team (IDT); support advance directive and POLST interpretation.
  • Deliver patient advocacy and therapeutic communication with patients, families, and caregivers; provide family caregiver education and bereavement support.
  • Collaborate with attending physicians, palliative care social workers, chaplains, and care coordinators as part of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Monitor skin integrity, wound care needs, urinary care, and bowel management protocols in alignment with comfort-focused goals.
  • Document care accurately and in a timely manner within the facility’s EMR system; maintain regulatory compliance with CMS and Joint Commission standards.
  • Adhere to all infection control and universal precaution standards.
  • Demonstrate reliability and professionalism – consistent follow-through on accepted shifts is essential for this per diem role.

Qualifications

Required

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Georgia.
  • Current BLS/CPR Certification (Basic Life Support).
  • Minimum 1 year of RN clinical experience in acute care, hospice care, palliative care, end-of-life care, or med/surg.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills, nursing diagnosis ability, and critical thinking in clinical practice.
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative member of an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Commitment to compassionate, patient- and family-centered end-of-life care and cultural competency.
  • Reliable attendance – this role backfills call-outs and supports census fluctuations; consistent follow-through is essential.

Preferred

  • Prior hospice nursing, palliative care, or comfort care nursing experience.
  • Experience working in an inpatient palliative unit (IPU) or skilled nursing / long-term care setting.
  • CHPN – Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse credential.
  • Familiarity with POLST, advance directives, and DNR/AND protocols.

Schedule & Shift Details

All shifts are 12 hours (7 AM-7 PM or 7 PM-7 AM). As a PRN nurse on the MyShyft platform, you choose which open shifts to accept – there is no minimum shift commitment and no long-term contract obligation. This makes the role ideal for Registered Nurses seeking flexible nursing shifts, supplemental nursing income, or a flexible secondary nursing position.

Night shift has the greatest current need. Nurses who can provide consistent night shift availability are strongly encouraged to apply. Day shift openings are also available.

Pay: $54-$60 per hour.

Orientation & Onboarding

All PRN clinicians complete a facility orientation prior to their first patient care shift. The orientation program mirrors the program used for full-time nursing staff and is designed to ensure system access, familiarity with facility workflows, and a strong foundation for safe, high-quality palliative care delivery. Orientation details will be coordinated through MyShyft upon credentialing completion.

Dress Code

Navy blue scrubs are required for all clinical nursing staff on this unit.
