Finding & Applying to Shifts

How do I find shifts?

Navigate to the “Find Shifts” tab in the app to view available shifts near you using map or list view.

How do I filter shifts?

You can filter shifts by:

– Date range or specific days
– Shift type (morning, evening, night)
– Location or facility

You can also turn off “Show Only Available Shifts” to view upcoming opportunities. Even if a shift appears filled, you can still apply.

How do I apply to a shift?

1. Select the shift by clicking on the details
2. Click “next”
3. Enter your desired rate
4.Click “Apply”

Facilities review applicants and select the caregiver they wish to assign.

Do I automatically get the shift after applying?

If the shift is an auto-confirm shift, then yes! If not an auto-confirm shift, facilities select which worker they would like to work the shift. If selected, you must confirm the shift in the app. Confirmation means that all parties agree that you will be at the shift.

What happens if I do not confirm a shift?

You are not scheduled until the shift is confirmed. Unconfirmed shifts may be reassigned to another caregiver.

Confirming & Managing Shifts

How do I confirm a shift?

Go to “My Shifts,” select the assigned shift, and click “Confirm Assignment.”

Can I resign from a shift?

Yes; however, resignations within 4 hours of the shift start time will result in penalties under MyShyft’s Conduct Policy.

Organizations, MyShyft, and patients and residents depend on you! Please confirm carefully as cancellations are very detrimental to operations and can dimmish trust.

What is MyShyft’s user code of conduct policy?

Please find MyShyft’s user code of conduct policy here.

What is the reliability score?

Your reliability score reflects completed shifts vs. confirmed shifts. Cancellations and resignations may lower your score. Facilities may consider this when selecting caregivers.

Clocking In & Out

How do I clock in?

1. Navigate to “My Shifts” → “Confirmed”
2. Select your shift
3. Click “Clock In” upon arrival

You must be physically present at the facility to clock in.

How do I clock out?

1. Open your shift
2. Click “Clock Out” – once clocked out, you CANNOT clock back in. If taking a break, please use the break clock feature to clock in and out or enter your break time at the end of shift.

What happens if I forget to clock in or out?

Failure to properly clock in or out may delay payment and may be considered a timekeeping issue under the Conduct Policy. If you need to submit a time clock adjustment request, please fill out MyShyft’s Shift Clock Adjustment form here. Feel free to bookmark this form for future reference!

Pay & Payments

When do I get paid?

Payments are typically processed within 2–4 business days after shift completion.

What is Instant Pay?

If your bank account is eligible per Stripe’s standards, you may receive payment within minutes using Stripe Instant Payouts.

To enable Instant Pay:
1. Go to your Profile
2. Select “Bank Account”
3. Authorize Stripe Instant Payouts

A 1.5% fee applies to Instant Pay transactions. A banner will tell you whether the bank account you have on file is eligible for Stripe Instant Pay.

What happens if I do not use Instant Pay?

Payments will follow MyShyft’s standard payout schedule.

What should I do if there is a payment issue?

Please fill out MyShyft’s Shift Clock adjustments form here.  and the Payments team will review and resolve any discrepancies. They will follow up with you directly with questions or concerns, but the quickest resolution will come by filling out the above form.

Pay Protection

What is cancellation pay?

If a facility cancels a confirmed shift within two hours of the scheduled start time, you will receive two hours of pay at your confirmed rate. You can request this by filling out MyShyft’s Shift Clock Adjustment form here.

What is “sent home” pay?

If you arrive on time (within seven minutes of the shift start time), properly clock in, and are sent home by the facility, you will receive a minimum of four hours of pay or the total hours worked, whichever is greater.

Please note that you will only qualify for sent home pay if you arrive on time, meet all shift requirements, and follow facility policies. If a shift ends early due to late arrival, missing credentials, policy violations, or misconduct, you will only be paid for the actual time worked, if any.

You can request this by filling out this form: please fill out MyShyft’s Shift Clock Adjustment form here.

1099, Taxes, Income & Liability Insurance

Am I an employee of MyShyft?

No. You are classified as an independent contractor (1099), not an employee.

Are taxes withheld from my pay?

No. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for filing and paying your own taxes.

For more information, please visit the IRS Self-Employed Tax Center here.

When will I receive my 1099?

You will receive an email from Stripe by mid-January with instructions on how to access your 1099. If you request a physical copy, it will be mailed by January 31.

Can I request proof of income?

Yes. MyShyft can provide an Income Verification Letter upon request. Please contact MyShyft and specify that you are requesting proof of income, along with the time period needed.

Are pay stubs provided?

No. As a 1099 contractor, traditional pay stubs are not issued.

What is Liability insurance and why are you asking for it?

As an independent contractor, you are responsible for your own coverage in the event of a claim or lawsuit. Liability insurance helps protect you if an incident occurs while working in a facility or organization.

MyShyft recommends that all caregivers carry individual liability insurance. The provided link directs you to an insurance provider offering affordable coverage options.

Learn more about liability insurance here.

Breaks & Time Reporting

Am I required to take a lunch break?

No. As an independent contractor, you are not required to take a break. However, some facilities may have their own requirements, which must be followed. If you fail to follow requirements set out by facilities or clock out for breaks and claim time not worked, you could be held accountable under MyShyft’s Code of Conduct policy.

How do I report breaks?

Use the break clock feature within the shift details when clocking in or out for breaks or enter the total number of minutes taken for breaks when clocking out.

Professional Expectations

What happens if I no-show or resign last-minute?

This may result in warnings, suspension, or deactivation in accordance with MyShyft’s Conduct Policy. We understand that life happens. Our organization partners and their patients and residents rely on professional, quality care. Please ensure that you’re aligned with MyShyft’s mission and values when confirming a shift to avoid last minute cancellations.

What is expected when I accept a shift?

When you confirm a shift, you are making a professional commitment to complete that shift. Health Care Professionals are expected to arrive on time, follow facility guidelines, and complete assigned duties. The care you provide matters!
